Bakmiup Skills

There are certain skills that are assumed when it comes to using Bakmiup. This section will explain those skills. In addition to skills, frequently referred to phrases and programs will be explained here.

Setting up a Symlink

Overview

Symlinks are ways of creating a shortcut. They tell the Operating System that contents of file x are the contents of file y. If you edit something in the file x and save it, the change will be visible in file y, vice versa.

Basic Syntax

ln -s /real/file/location /shortcut/location

Example

If you wanted to move a folder username.git from /var to /mnt/new/drive/location and create a symlink, you can do the following:

mv /var/username.git /mnt/new/drive/location
ln -s /mnt/new/drive/location/username.git /var/username.git

Now, you could access the contents of that directory through either /mnt/new/drive/location/username.git or through /var/username.git.
